Introduction – Eric Ding

Hi everyone!

My name is Eric, and I am currently in my final semester as a fourth-year Health Information Science student. Following graduation, I hope to pursue a career in informatics analysis within the healthcare sector. I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Surrey, BC, from kindergarten until high school.

Throughout my studies, I have completed three co-ops in healthcare organizations in Vancouver. I worked as a Functional Analyst at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), as an Informatics Analyst at the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), and as a Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse student at First Nations Health Authority (FNHA). These experiences allowed me to contribute to the development of online resources and information tools, such as websites and dashboards, to support both healthcare professionals and the public. Additionally, these co-ops better cemented my interest in healthcare data and informatics, and the use of technology to improve healthcare decision-making and outcomes.

Outside of academics and work, I have enjoyed swimming and badminton since I was younger. More recently, I have become interested in hiking and snowboarding, in locations such as Grouse and Cypress Mountain. Additionally, over the course of the summer, I plan to go on longer hikes, such as Joffre Lakes and Panorama Ridge. After graduation, I also hope to continue exploring hiking opportunities internationally.

I am looking forward to EDCI 339 because I hope to strengthen my ability to communicate information in more engaging and accessible ways through digital media. Given my background in healthcare informatics and online resource development, I am interested in learning how design in multimedia and digital tools can improve the way people learn information.
